Fragility and Fire: A Tale of Creation

Three years ago, I found myself at a Christmas market in Vilnius. It was my very first market experience, and, truth be told, I felt completely out of place. Whether I’m in a room full of strangers or lost in the relentless flow of a bustling event, I always look for something—a focal point—to keep me grounded. Something that captivates me enough to quiet the discomfort.

That day, it was Ramūnas Dagys’ ceramics that kept me steady. His stall stood right across from mine, and I found solace in the delicate beauty of his work. While visitors gravitated towards other candle makers, I knew that whatever modest earnings I had made that day would be spent on his fragile coffee cups. What I didn’t know was that three years later, I would be writing this, marking the beginning of our first creative project together.

Every candle I make is unique, and it felt only right that its vessel should be crafted with the same intention—created for this moment, with time, care, and, above all, love.

For years, I dreamed of a candle in a ceramic vessel. A candle whose fragrance would be as bold as it is delicate. One that would unfold like a story—strong in character yet fragile in form.

The scent is a reflection of both fragility and resilience, housed in a single body. At first, sharp, earthy notes emerge—like rain-soaked soil, the rawness of smoke and wood. As time passes, the fragrance deepens, revealing the warmth of patchouli and birch, blending harmoniously with the sweetness of bourbon vanilla. Like every piece I create, this scent carries its own story—one that is distinctive yet unwavering in its presence.

A Call, a Vision, and the Beginning of Something Unfolding

“One day, my phone rang. A number I didn’t recognize. On the other end was Laura—her voice warm, familiar, full of intent. She reminded me of a moment years ago, at a market, where we had first crossed paths. She still had my business card, she said, and now she had an idea. One that had been felt, shaped, and lived before even being spoken.

From the very first words, I knew—I wanted to be a part of this. Laura spoke with the same openness, warmth, and creative freedom that I hold close. And just as she gave me space to bring this vision to life, I knew I wanted to do the same for my father. I told him about her idea, and he didn’t hesitate. “I already know what this candleholder will look like,” he said.

A couple of months later, I arrived at Laura’s studio, holding the first finished pieces. The moment we saw them, we knew—this was something special. Each candleholder had emerged from a deeply felt process, and each was unmistakably one of a kind.

The beauty of this collaboration is that it will never truly be finished. It will evolve, just as we do. Creation is constant, and that’s exactly how it should be. Ramūnas thrives in that space—he is a creator who works from feeling, drawn to movement, exploration, and freedom. That means the candleholders will keep changing, and you will always be able to add to your collection.” says Kornelija Dagytė
